3D stochastic rock fracture modeling related to strike-slip faults
Fault zones and fault-related fracture systems control the mechanical behaviors and fluid-flow properties of the Earth’s crust. Furthermore, nowadays, modeling is being increasingly used in order to understand the behavior of rock masses, and to determine their characteristics. In this work, fault zones and fracture patterns are reviewed, and also comprehensive studies are carried out on the fr...
متن کاملAnalysis of Impact Hammer Rebound to Estimate Rock Drillability
In this paper, the piston rebound common to both the Schmidt Impact Hammer and downhole hammer drills has been analyzed and calculated by means of stress wave theory and the energy conservation law. A quantitative relationship between the amount of rebound of the piston and the impact resistance index, or hardness of the rock, has been established. Those analytical results will not only be of b...

متن کاملThree-Dimensional Geostatistical Analysis of Rock Fracture Roughness and Its Degradation with Shearing
Three-dimensional surface geometry of rock discontinuities and its evolution with shearing are of great importance in understanding the deformability and hydro-mechanical behavior of rock masses. In the present research, surfaces of three natural rock fractures were digitized and studied before and after the direct shear test. The variography analysis of the surfaces indicated a strong non-line...
متن کاملInvestigation of a hydraulic impact: a technology in rock breaking
Finite element method and dimensional analysis have been applied in the present paper to study a hydraulic impact, which is used in a non-explosive rock breaking technology in mining industry. The impact process of a high speed piston on liquidwater, previously introduced in a borehole drilled in rock, is numerically simulated. The research is focused on the influence of all the parameters invo...
